"[White woman Rooney Mara is cast to play Tiger Lily in Pan.] But Tiger Lily being a problematic character isn't an excuse to cast a non-Native American actress. Rather, it's the same as it was with The Lone Ranger: The key to bringing a racial caricature forward to the modern day isn't to disregard that person's race but to change the character so they're not a racial caricatures. Jesus Christ. It's not that hard. There's something to be said for 'loyalty to source material.' but 'early 1900s racism is not one of the things you need to keep.'" - Rebecca Pahle

"Oh my god, what if you wake up some day, and you're 65, or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written; or you didn't go swimming in warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? It's going to break your heart. Don't let this happen." - Anne Lamott

"Let me tell you a story. Once at a party, I had all the little girls sitting around me and I was asking them about their favorite parts of all the princess movies. The birthday girl was sitting next to me, and she tells, 'Princess, your skin is the same color as mine.' I smile and agree, and try to move the game along, but she interrupts and says, 'Your skin is brown and you're a princess. It's the same color as mine, but you're a princess.' 'Well, my skin is brown and your skin is brown, and I'm a princess, then you must be a princess too,' I tell her. And then I spent the next 10 minutes assuring all the black girls at the party that yes, they have lovely skin and yes, they can be princesses with me. This happens at most of the parties I go to. I have had my arm stroked, my hair patted, my skin color commented on more times than I can remember. I am not simply hired out to entertain a bunch of cute little girls dressed in poofy skirts who want to play with a big girl in a poofier skirt. I am hired out because I am an affirmation. Fore these little black girls (and boys! I've dazzled a few of them too) Princess Tiana is proof that for once, they can be special BECAUSE of the color of their skin, not IN SPITE OF." - Lyrique86

"Sometimes, when it's raining, I think about you. I think about you all the way over there, with all that ocean and all those years between us. I think about if you're doing well, what your bedroom looks like, if you enjoy your job. I think about the times when there wasn't any ocean between us and my time was your time. I think about when I knew the answers about you, because they were my answers as much as they were yours. Sometimes, when it's raining, I wonder if it's raining where you are too." - Kat George

"It's funny that men can make video upon video and post upon post mocking women and talking about how annoying women are but if a woman is to do the same she has to add a disclaimer saying not ALL boys are like that lest she hurts their fragile little egos and they start sending her death threats." - FuckOffCishets

"I am sad and have a passion for unknown, distant places. I want to see the world. And I would love it, if I just had the chance to get away for a little while. But sadly, things aren't that easy; desire won't change a thing." - Abraham M. Alghanem

"Leaving is not enough. You must stay gone. Train your heart like a dog. Change the locks even on the house he's never visited. You lucky, lucky girl. You have an apartment just your size. A bathtub full of tea. A heart the size of Arizona, but not nearly so arid. Don't wish away your cracked past, your crooked toes, your problems are papier mache puppets you made or bought because the vendor at the market was so compelling you just had to have them. You had to have him. And you did. And now you pull down the bridge between your houses, you make him call before he visits, you take a lover for granted, you take a lover who looks at you like maybe you are magic. Make the first bottle you consume in this place a relic. Place it on whatever altar you fashion with a knife and five cranberries. Don't lose too much weight. Stupid girls are always trying to disappear as revenge. And you are not stupid. You loved a man with more hands than a parade of beggars. And here you stand, heart like a four-poster bed. Heart like a canvas. Heart leaking something so strong they can smell it in the street." - Frida Kahlo
